Offering to take 150 refugees: Jacinda Ardern with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull earlier this month. The relationship is under slightly more strain since Ardern has re-emphasised that invitation multiple times on the public stage.

OPINION: There are not a lot of perks that come with being in Opposition.

But there is freedom.

Freedom to say (nearly) anything you want, to hold the Government to account and to say how much better your side would be if it had all the power.

Underfunding! Negligence! Crisis! Uncaring! Repeat the catch-cries enough and they may just catch on, stir something in the national psyche. One of those most dangerous things in politics: A set of expectations.
