Kane Williamson's side has the potential to tip the cricket world on its head.

OPINION: This New Zealand cricket side has the odd flaw, but is still surely the finest in the country's history. This is a side in its captain's image. It is talented, diligent, thoughtful and loyal, which aren't bad qualities for any sporting side to build around.

New Zealand are ranked the fourth-best test side in the world, the fifth in ODIs and are top of the heap in T20. In the fastest form of the game, they have the highest-ranked batsman in Colin Munro and the highest-ranked bowler in Ish Sodhi. They are threatening all sorts of records, but more importantly they are becoming a side across all formats with some real depth.

Williamson is fortunate to have a talented group of players under his leadership, but he has also set the standards with his own batting and attitude to practice. He may lack Baz's charisma, but he more than makes up for it in intelligence and decency. Williamson is, if you like, an old fashioned captain. He is Richie McCaw with a touch more ingenuity.

Captain Kane Williamson and his Black Caps could bring many sides to their knees.

Hesson said, "He's very well-regarded everywhere in the world. He's a world-class player - and we haven't had very many of those.

Brendon McCullum had a different leadership style.

"I think the thing the team most likes about Kane is that he's so selfless - I understand you (the media)........
