Peterborough visionary wants land to return to First Nation

Three years ago, a dynamic woman, retiring teacher Janice Keil, 59, chose to relocate to Peterborough from Toronto. She had done research, looking for a small city that had a good cycling infrastructure and a progressive cultural/political community.

We qualified.

Clear-eyed about her goals and values, with prodigious energy, she moved ahead; found an apartment on Charlotte St. and plunged into her projects: setting up a design for a feminist construction project to build a passive solar house near Campbellford (in season she cycles out there, having no car - about a five-hour ride.) It is meant to be a training module, with crews of women building affordable housing to the EU Passivhaus standard.

But more, Janice spent seven years finding and buying 97.3 acres of land in Northumberland County, because she now intends to make her contribution to reconciliation with Indigenous people by........
