New Delhi: England pacer Richard Gleeson has become the second-oldest debutant in the history of Indian Premier League. The fast bowler, who took to the field at Chepauk during the Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings encounter on Wednesday, was handed a debut by CSK at the age of 36, making him the second-oldest debutant in the history of the cash-rich league.

Gleeson replaced Tushar Deshpande who was benched for being unwell. The English pace bowler surpassed for Super Kings spinner Imran Tahir to achieve this feat. Punjab Kings’ Sikandar Raza is on the top of the list who made his debut just a few days before turning 37.

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old pace bowler has represented England in six T20I matches and has picked nine wickets at an average of 20.77. He made his international debut against India in 2022 in Birmingham. Overall, the right-arm bowler has 101 wickets in 90 T20s, averaging 24.32.

The 49th game in Chepauk proved to be in PBKS’ favour as the visiting side defeated hosts CSK for a fifth consecutive time in the IPL. Batting first, CSK scored a moderate total of 162 for 7 in the stipulated 20 overs with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad top scoring for the side with 62 runs. Ajinkya Rahane scored 29 while Sameer Rizvi, Moeen Ali and MS Dhoni played knocks of 21, 15 and 14 respectively. Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar picked up two wickets apiece.

The chase proved out to be more or less smooth for the Kings as they achieved the mark with 13 balls and 7 wickets to spare. Jonny Bairstow led from the front scoring 46 runs while Rilee Rossouw hit 43 runs in the match. Shashank Singh and Sam Curran played unbeaten knocks of 25 and 26 runs respectively to help the side to the win.
