Mohali: The Punjab Police has busted two fake call centres in the Mohali district of Punjab and arrested a total of 155 employees for making fraudulent calls to people in the US. As per the police, both call centres are believed to be run by kingpins based out of Gujarat.

Sharing further detail, Yadav said that the initial probe revealed fake call centres were being operated at the night. He added that employees at call centres were using three modus operandi to dupe foreign nationals and making them buy gift cards from Apple, Target, Amazon, and other companies. Employees used to share these gift cards with a team manager, which were redeemed by the kingpin.

According to Additional Director General of Police (Cyber Crime) V Neeraja, the intelligence inputs about fake call centres that were being operated in the district were developed with technical assistance from the Digital Investigation Training and Analysis Centre (DITAC) lab of Cybercrime. She further said that the police team reached the location, after which raids were conducted followed by the arrest of all 155 employees from the spot.

The police further said that both the kingpins in the case are on the run and teams have been formed to nab them, she added further. Neeraja further added that 18 out of 155 arrested were taken on police remand, even as the rest have been sent to judicial remand.
