Israeli journalist Almog Boker doubled down on his report that an employee of the United Nations’ Relief and Works Agency — its arm that caters exclusively to Palestinians — held one of Hamas’s hostages in inhumane conditions.

UNRWA had challenged Boker, a reporter with Israel’s Channel 13 television station, on his reporting, which followed the release of several hostages during the recent cease-fire. The agency demanded that Boker either substantiate the report — calling it a “claim” — in greater detail and provide UNRWA with more information, or delete it, as it “may amount to disinformation.”

Over the weekend, Boker wrote that he would do neither of those things.

“Survivors of Hamas captivity are beginning to share their stories. One of them testified he was held hostage and starved by an @UNRWA teacher. That’s not an ‘allegation’. That’s a survivor testimony, and more testimonies are coming,” he wrote in a post to social media. He added that he doesn’t want to share information that could endanger or identify the former hostage he interviewed while Hamas continues to hold Israelis hostage.

“I hope UNRWA treats this more seriously than Hamas’s theft from its stocks and abuse of its civilian facilities for terror activity,” he added, referring to previous incidents in which the agency accused Hamas of stealing from a warehouse before backtracking and evidence that the terrorist group has used the U.N. office’s facilities.

On Monday, Senator Marsha Blackburn demanded an investigation into Boker’s report. In a letter addressed to U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Linda Thomas-Greenfield and UNRWA commissioner general Philippe Lazzarini, she asked a series of questions including whether UNRWA has investigated the matter and if it has looked into previous reports detailing the agency’s alleged links to Hamas.
