Devin Singletary, who led the Texans in rushing yards last season, is going to sign with the New York Giants.

Oh my, what are the Texans going to do?

Relax. They’ll figure it out.

Even if the Texans don’t sign Saquon Barkley (they won’t, because he is going to the Eagles) or Derrick Henry, they will be fine at running back.

Free agency is great for players but overrated in terms of team building.

Aside from a team signing a 42-year-old Tom Brady, an all-time great, as Tampa did a couple years ago, not many organizations make a huge leap by winning the March free agency period.

A year ago, there was no buzz about the Texans’ signings in free agency.

TEXANS TRACKER: Follow the Texans' free-agent moves.

Wide receiver Brandin Cooks demanded a trade. Cooks, who was Houston's leading receiver in 2022 with 57 catches for 699 yards, didn’t want to play for a team in a rebuild.

Unfortunately for him, he went to the Cowboys, a team that wasn’t in a rebuild but wasn’t as good as the team he left.

The Texans signed Robert Woods and Noah Brown, two solid players who weren’t game breakers. Someone already on the roster proved to be a legitimate No. 1 receiver.

Nico Collins finished seventh in the NFL in receiving yards and touchdowns and posted more yards in his third season than Cooks has in any of his 10 years in the league.

Singletary led the team with 898 rushing yards last season. He had an outstanding season.

Dameon Pierce had a better season for the Texans the year before.

Will the Texans draft a running back to replace that production? Can Pierce figure it out and return to form this year? Will Houston land Henry, who in the last five years has led the NFL in rushing twice and finished second two other times?

Nobody knows.

Just note that what happens in the next week will not make or break the season.

There is a lot of team building yet to be done. We still have almost two months of draft talk to get through.
