Michael McCulloch, 49, and Nicholas Wall, 38, both deny charges relating to a break-in at Thetford Methodist Church last May.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told police investigating the incident had discovered messages between the two men that the prosecution allege relate to a cheque that was stolen from the Tanner Street church building.

McCulloch, of Canterbury House in Thetford, pleaded not guilty to entering as a trespasser with intention to steal between May 19 and 21.

Wall, of Highlands in Thetford, had previously denied charges of handling stolen goods and fraud.

Rima Begum, prosecuting, said he was accused of attempting to cash the cheque.

Both men will stand trial at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court on September 13. They were released on unconditional bail.

Thetford Methodist Church holds church and family events and runs a popular cafe.
