Over the past year, large quantities of wood chippings have been illegally fly-tipped on council-owned land in Lowestoft.

Nine incidents have taken place in Blackheath Road, Laxfield Way and Walmer Road with waste dumped in parking spaces and dog walking areas.

Locals living in these areas are now being asked to be watchful for any suspicious activity and to report sightings of possible fly-tipping.

East Suffolk Council believes a business is behind the fly-tipping due to the amount of waste being dumped.

A spokesman for the council said: “We want to identify the person responsible for repeatedly dumping woodchips in a residential area, with no thought for the people who live there.

"These incidents are happening regularly and we would urge residents to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity, and to let us know if they see anything which could identify the culprits."

Anyone found guilty of commercial fly-tipping faces an unlimited fine or up to five years in prison.
