Rangers kid Ross McCrorie plays like Fabricio Coloccini and can have big future in the game says Jak Alnwick

It didn’t seem like the most obvious of comparisons but it was a heck of a compliment.

One of them is a wild-haired Argentina international who grew up on the mean streets of Cordoba. The other is a big quiet lad coming from a sleepy Ayrshire mining town.

But Jak Alnwick has seen both up close and he reckons Rangers kid Ross McCrorie has shades of the Fabricio Coloccini about him.

The Geordie keeper came through the Newcastle ranks when the Argentine was bossing the backline at St James’ Park and he was blown away by the display of youngster McCrorie when he was pitched in against Partick Thistle on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old helped drag Gers over the line and into the Betfred Cup semi-finals – and earn gushing praise from his gaffer.

Pedro Caixinha might be forced to face Celtic on Saturday without Portuguese warhorse Bruno Alves after the centre-half limped off during the extra time win at Firhill while Danny Wilson is also a doubt after taking a knock in the warm-up against Dundee the
other week.
