If Aberdeen want to fend off Rangers for Derek McInnes they must secure new stadium insists Theo Snelders

Theo Snelders reckons Aberdeen need to get cracking with their new stadium if they want to make sure Derek McInnes is there to help build a bigger and brighter future.

The Dons legend is hoping his old club can keep hold of their in-demand manager with Rangers ready to attempt to prise him away from Pittodrie.

Snelders - who was a Gers teammate of McInnes at Ibrox after making the move from Aberdeen - believes the Dons will put up a fight to persuade him to stay.

But the decision might be out of their hands with the new stadium and training ground plans stuck in development hell.

The club are looking to put their Kingsford proposals to a council vote in December after asking for more time earlier this month amid fears the politicians would slam on the brakes.

Snelders reckons the new facilities are crucial to keeping their manager - but both projects are running out of time.

The Dutch keeper said: “It’s hugely important Aberdeen keep Derek. He has done a great job at the club and they don’t want to lose him.

“The manager is the barometer for a football club and you can see the standards he has........
