How Coventry's first Indian photographer has become a worldwide hit

My father Masterji, also known as Maganbhai Patel, has always loved taking photos.

He arrived in Coventry in 1951 and, as many migrants during the postwar period, he was arrived when many people from the Sub-Indian continent, the Commonwealth and Europe were coming to restore Britain.

Leaving his former life as a school master, he started his life in this city working in factories, but due to his love of taking photographs, he established his business in 1969 called Master’s Art Studio on Stoney Stanton Road, which to this day is still there.

This small unassuming shop is where he photographed friends, family and customers.

A lot of his clients were originally from India, Punjab, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

I don’t even think he realised at the time, but he was documenting a pinnacle moment in British society -........
