Why Robin Heydon thinks Station Square needs a re-design which 'puts people first'

Next week there will be a development control forum to debate some more changes to the CB1 station area .

I’ll make a prediction. Nothing good will happen or even be promised.

When you just stand there, watching what is happening, you notice Station Square is dominated by three things.

A bus-only road that has mostly people cycling on it. A large car-manœuvring area that is full of taxis, drivers dropping others off, and a free car park.

And the third thing is the little pop-up cafés to add colour to the square.

Now, when I arrived at 11.30pm the other night and needed a taxi to get home, I did appreciate the taxi rank.

Of course, there wasn’t really any structure to the people part of it. A generic sort of line of people had self-organised, and the line sort of worked, but then there was the........
