So cricket fans have vented about a controversial decision in the Big Bash League that saw Brisbane Heat's Alex Ross dismissed for obstructing the fielding side.

The rules of cricket state that a batsman can be given out for wilfully obstructing the fielding side by word or action. It was deemed by the third umpire that while scampering down the wicket Ross had intentionally deviated off his course to ensure his body obstructed the Hobart Hurricane fielder from hitting the stumps.


Hobart's captain, George Bailey, appealed for the third umpire to check to see if Ross had obstructed the field. They decided he had and Ross was given out.

Cue bemusement, confusion, angst and anger.

Alex Ross was given out on an obstruction call.

Heat captain Brendan McCullum was fuming, suggesting that the decision was at odds with the "spirit........
